The Education and Development Centre (EDC) within Humberside Fire and Rescue Service (HFRS) design, produce, deliver and quality assure a wide range of educational packages and presentations. The EDC offer fire safety, arson, consequences and road safety presentations at varied levels to ensure the content is tailored to learners of all ages. The presentations cover key safety messages, encourage group discussions, inspire the learners to consider their futures whilst coming up with coping strategies to help remove themselves from unsafe situations.  A careers presentation is also available which explores both operational and non-operational job roles within HFRS. Additionally, all schools can access Staywise which brings together many educational resources from the emergency services and voluntary safety organisations. Staywise allows schools to easily find trusted resources which are linked to age groups, themes and curriculum areas.

The EDC offer a wide variety of short courses ranging from half-day to 12-week experiences which are designed to provide challenging activities and teamworking whilst developing new skills. The courses and experiences can be tailored to meet the school’s requirements and the content can be adapted to suit varying needs. The EDC also offer a Firesetter Education Programme to children who play with or set fires. These interventions can be delivered on a 1-1 or group basis.
