Gabi's list of things to do while isolating

During these unforeseen and difficult circumstances that we have found ourselves in our physical health is extremely important; however keeping up with our mental health is also essential during lockdown. As we are forced to stay inside our mood can drastically change. Not socialising and going out along with cancelled events can make anyone feel low. I’ve compiled a small list of and activities to do while inside so that you can look after your mental health.

Keep physically healthy

Keeping fit, like eating healthy and exercising regularly, has been proven to improve you mood. You can exercise at home (there are many great work out videos on YouTube) or outside (running or even walking your dog are great options).

Find some new talents or hobbies

We all have a lot of free time on our hands, which means that you have time to refine some old skills or try something new. For example try cooking. There are so many simple recipes that you can try. Other activities include – learning a new instrument, painting, sketching, and baking. You could also try different things like calligraphy, candle making, makeup and dancing.

Keep your brain engaged

Even when not in school you should continue learning as that can help you keep a routine. You can focus on the topics and lessons that you have enjoyed, or things that you have not been very good at in the past so you can improve. If you’re going to a college next year you could start learning some of the topics for your courses. You can find the materials online on the schools website.

Relax

Now is a great opportunity to chill out if you have nothing to do. Read a new book series, watch new shows on streaming sites and listen to your favourite artists.

Remember that it is important to keep in contact with your family and friends during lockdown, which you can easily do over social media, facetime, skype and phone calls. Isolation is one of the biggest causes of poor mental health at this time so make sure to check up on family members and friends.
