Safer Roads Humber Road Safety (Primary and Secondary)
Humberside Fire & Rescue Service Road Safety, working in partnership with Safer Roads Humber, continue to deliver road safety presentations to schools, colleges and other
educational/training establishments across the Humber region. We also deliver presentations to youth groups such as youth clubs, scouts, cadets and sports groups and other social organisations such as Women’s Institute and Young Farmers. We also support the young drivers' "Pathfinder" initiative..
Young people account for 22% of those killed or seriously injured on our roads throughout the areas of our four local authorities. Children, especially of school age, are at greatest risk as pedestrians or cyclists with one in three pedestrian casualties. The high risk time for young people is after leaving school or college.
Primary School Children
We can deliver pedestrian and cycle safety talks to all Primary school children. For Years 5 and 6 we would also include car safety, aimed at seat belts using our crash cars and ramp that has bean bag people in them. This is very important for independent travel to secondary schools. For younger children we facilitate road safety role play activities.
Secondary Schools
Our ‘safe4life’ PowerPoint presentations are intended to deliver important and relevant age specific road safety messages to those aged up to 15 years. The presentation is aimed at pedestrians, cyclists and vehicle passengers. It also includes the cycle helmet demonstration.
Drive4life
Our ‘drive4life’ PowerPoint presentations are intended to deliver important and relevant road safety messages to young drivers, those considering learning to drive and passengers aged 15 and over who travel with young drivers, working to keep our roads safe.
Scooter/Moped Riders
Our ‘scoot4life’ presentation is intended for young riders of powered two wheelers, especially those who have just made the transition from pedal cycles. The presentation gives general advice on riding, motorcycle PPE and causes of collisions.
E-Scooters
Our e-scooter PowerPoint presentation is intended to provide information and advice on the laws relating to the use of this type of motor vehicle and the consequences of non-compliance.
Virtual Reality (Students aged 15 years and over)
Our ‘drive4life’ and ‘scoot4life’ presentations are enhanced by the use of ‘state of the art’ Virtual Reality technology, branded as Immersive Education and reinforces the important safety messages given in our presentations.
