LifeSkills aims to help all people in the UK, whether that’s a young person preparing for their first job, to someone wanting to progress in their career, make changes to their working life or even start their own business.
The LifeSkills website provides access to free, curriculum linked employability resources such as films, quick-fire activities, interactive tools and full-length lesson plans to use in the classroom, as well as a range of engaging activities for young people to use independently or in conjunction with their parents.
The programme focuses on core, transferable skills such as CV writing, interview skills, problem solving, adaptability, creativity, resilience, proactivity, communication and leadership, as well as financial capability skills such as money and budgeting.
Here are a few resources available:
· Virtual Work Experience hub: A range of resources for young people to explore what skills are needed in the workplace and identify those they may already have, and an opportunity to see the inner workings of a company https://barclayslifeskills.com/i-want-virtual-work-experience/school/
· Prepare for an interview: Young people can access a range of resources to help prepare them for an interview, from rehearsing common questions through our interactive tool, to exploring the different types of interviews and assessments and more. · Wheel of Strengths: What career is right for me? The Wheel of Strengths encourages students to find out how their skills, interests and personality traits match up with a range of job roles. Link: https://barclayslifeskills.com/i-want-to-choose-my-next-step/college/wheel-of-strengths/
· Racial equality in the workplace: Diversity in the workplace refers to a workforce which varies in the people which make it up and the attributes they have, having employees who differ in things such as race, gender, ethnicity and age. This online lesson film is around racial equality in the workplace, with a particular focus on Black individuals due to the Black Lives Matter Movement.
